1. The Handrail Man

Operating Hours:
- Monday: 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM
- Tuesday to Friday: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
The Handrail Man was what my brother had advised me to hire when installing bannisters in my first house. He worked with the team on his house before, so I was somewhat at ease when I contacted them.
John, the owner, was a pleasure to talk to the moment he picked up the phone. He assured me that he had been doing this kind of work since 1991 and had a long list of testimonials to boot.
When he arrived and measured my staircase, I was amazed by his attention to detail. He gave me options from traditionally styled bannisters to some modern-looking railings, allowing me to decide while he gave small suggestions.
When he gave me the quotation for some pine bannisters, I was surprised by how affordable it was, though my stairs weren’t that large to begin with.
A week later, the bannisters were installed, and I loved the finished product.
My one small gripe about the entire process was that John hadn’t cleared it with me that the bannisters wouldn’t be painted. It was fine in the end since I had already planned to paint them myself, but it was also a hassle.
Straightforward, no messing
“Can’t recommend this company more. Straightforward, no messing. I sent an email to John, job booked in for a couple of days later. Peter and David arrived on time, handrail fitted in 30 minutes. Job done ! If only all companies could be this easy to deal with ! Thanks so much guys”

I couldn’t be more impressed
“I recently had a glass bannister fitted by John & the team, and I couldn’t be more impressed. From start to finish, their professionalism was outstanding. They were extremely polite, friendly, and ensured that I was kept informed throughout the entire process. The communication was excellent, and they were always quick to respond to any questions I had. The quality of the work is top-notch, and the finished product looks amazing. Highly recommended!”

2. Irish Fencing Services

Contact Details: +353 1 626 8363
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- Friday: 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Whether you’re looking for a contractor for a commercial, industrial, or residential project, the Irish Fencing Services are the ones for you.
They claim to be able to do any project, no matter the size, without skimping on quality or attention to detail. I think they deliver on this claim, as they have a great portfolio of both private and public spaces throughout Dublin.
They’re also not entirely tied to fences, as they provide services for guard/hand rails, mesh perimeters, sports fencing, and even wall toppers. I’ve even seen a few projects that were for full-on bus stops.
They also have quite a sustainable practice, as confirmed to me by their staff. Many of the materials they use are recyclable and incorporate carbon into the steel to prevent rusting.
The main downside that will make you want to choose a different contractor is that they only provide metal bannisters and fencing. This is something to keep in mind before working with them.
Did an amazing job
“I had a fantastic experience with Irish Fencing Services. From the first stage agreeing the design of our new railings for our house in Portobello to the installation yesterday – the crew from IFS did an amazing job. The railings look great and the lads who installed them couldn’t have been nicer. Would highly recommend.”

Contact Details: +353 1 450 7826
Operating Hours: Monday to Friday: 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM
If you’re looking for sleek and modern bannisters for your home, then Connolly Stairs might be the service for you. It might surprise you, but despite the classiness of the designs, they’re not as expensive as they may seem.
They have quite a good selection of staircases too, ranging from oak to walnut to even metal and glass. They claim to custom-make each staircase to the homeowner’s design, and that’s exactly what I’ve observed.
A few of their clients, including my neighbour Clive, confirm that their staircases were bespoke and met the standard they wanted. I’ve personally visited Clive’s house and seen that the wood was nice and smooth, with a premium quality to it.
I also like that they provide top-notch door installations, ensuring both quality and a perfect fit for every home.
From what I’ve seen online and what some of the clients have confirmed, there was a period when reaching Connolly Stairs was difficult. It might be due to a number change or a busy schedule.
Their attention to detail was outstanding
“I recently had a new staircase installed by Connolly Stairs and I have to say I absolutely love it! The guys did an amazing job from start to finish. Their attention to detail was outstanding. The craftsmanship really exceeded my expectations. They were also friendly, punctual, and clearly took pride in their work. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for high-quality work and great service.”

Professional and courteous
“I just had a stairs put into my attic by Connolly Stairs and I can’t recommend them highly enough. Everyone I dealt with was so professional and courteous. The workmanship was second to none, they cleaned up after themselves and it was all done in the time frame that was outlined at the start. It means a lot when you can trust people to come into your home, do an excellent job and leave with your home enhanced. It was a joy to deal with you and I wish you all continued success in the future.”

4. Spireco Stairs & Balustrades

Address: Unit 15, Grange Ave, Baldoyle Industrial Estate, Dublin, D13 XH00, Ireland
Contact Details: +353 1 839 5956
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Friday: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
- Saturday: 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM
There’s just something about spiral staircases that looks so chic and fashionable these days. And there’s no other service that I could find that specialises in spiral staircases quite like Spireco.
Their custom-made normal and spiral staircases are bespoke, unique, and are offered in a range of colours, designs, and materials. I’ve personally visited their store and found ones made out of wood, stainless steel, brass, and even glass.
They’re not just a staircase company; they also provide some wonderful railings and balustrades to go well with your staircases.
Yassine, who was the one I talked to when I visited, showed me photos of wonderful balustrades for both indoor and outdoor staircases. She was friendly and very welcoming.
However, due to the unique designs of their staircases, it does take longer to install them compared to their competitors.
I love the balustrades
“It is a pleasure dealing with Dylan. I love the balustrades and the glass he put in for me in my mews in Ballsbridge. His work is of a very high standard and he is most obliging. Yvonne Ryan”

5. Metalworks Dublin

Address: Unit 7, Ossory Road, Industrial Estate Est, Dublin, D03 C972, Ireland
Contact Details: +353 1 584 7177
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- Friday: 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
The main thing that caught my eye about Metalworks Dublin is their simplistic designs. While other companies might prefer a more grandiose aesthetic, most of the pieces from Metalworks Dublin are quite bare bones.
Looking at the list of projects that they’ve done on their website, their main selling point is their minimalist designs that are always functional. With sleek and muted colours, their railings are made to highlight the stairs they’re attached to.
However, a few reports mentioned that while their products are generally sturdy, they can rust over time.
Nonetheless, I like that they also work with wood, but as an addition to the project rather than the main selling point of their products.
I also appreciate that they provide 3D renders of each project before construction begins.
Even better, their services are significantly more affordable than those of other contractors.
Absolute gents and master craftsmen
“Metalworks did a brilliant job with my copper railings and stair rail. It is a work of art!! It was very challenging working with copper but they invested so much time and effort in ensuring that I had a great result. Thank you to Gabriel, Denis and (I think) Jackson. These guys are absolute gents and master craftsmen. Highly recommend!”
– Cliona S, Google Review
Quick to respond
“Couldn’t recommend Gabriel and the team enough, they went above and beyond the original requirements and are always quick to respond to reply to any questions. I look forward to doing business with Metalworks again. Thanks Sean.”
