The 5 best psychiatrists in Dublin for accurate mental health assessments
Sometimes, talk therapy doesn’t really cut it, and medication may be needed to help us deal with the hectic life of a Dubliner. While psychologists are great at talking, psychiatrists provide additional support.
Psychiatrists are great at diagnosing and treating mental and behavioural disorders. They provide medication and are great at supplementing different types of therapies.
My friends and I have had some of the best experiences with psychiatrists, and I’m willing to share them with you. Here are my choices for the best psychiatrists in Dublin so you can get the help that you need to get through the day.
How much does it cost to see a psychiatrist in Dublin?
Seeing a psychiatrist in Dublin typically costs between €220 to €500 for the first session, and subsequent sessions cost €140 to €230. The main factors that affect the price are the duration of each visit and any assessments that may be used.

What’s great about Neuromed Clinic Ireland is that they provide comprehensive care to their patients.
I was generally impressed by their mental health assessments and specific diagnostic procedures for autism and ADHD due to their accuracy. These can be done either through personal outreach or via a GP’s referral.
Their experts are also trained occupational therapists who help kids and adults learn useful coping strategies. In fact, all of them are registered members of MCPsychI, and their treatments are regulated through them.
Uniquely, there’s Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Therapy (TMST) here. It is great at resolving treatment-resistant conditions like BPD. TMST is also great for chronic pain, such as migraines.
Medicolegal advice and documentation are provided here, as well as DARE and RACE certifications for those who are impacted by mental illness long-term. Just note that these documents can take time to be approved, so expect long wait times.
The experience was exceptional from start to finish
“I cannot recommend Neuromed highly enough. I used their services for an ADHD assessment, and the experience was exceptional from start to finish. The entire team—from the psychiatrists to the management and administrative staff—were incredibly professional, kind, and genuinely caring.
The assessment process was thorough and conducted with such understanding and empathy that I felt truly heard and supported throughout. What stands out just as much is their follow-up care. Their efficiency in handling repeat prescriptions and ongoing support is unmatched, making the process stress-free and seamless.
Everyone I interact with at Neuromed is wonderful to speak with, and it’s clear they are deeply committed to helping their patients achieve the best outcomes. If you’re struggling whether it’s ADHD-related or any other issue, and you’re looking for a compassionate and professional psychiatry service to work with, don’t hesitate to contact Neuromed. They go above and beyond ☺️”

Dr Josip Dujmovic is a consultant psychiatrist who focuses on neurodiverse and trauma-affected patients. He’s worked in Croatia, Ireland, and the United Kingdom, and has been practising for years.

Contact Details: +353 1 249 3200
Operating Hours:
- Open 24 hours
St. Patrick’s Mental Health Services is Ireland’s largest and independent mental health service.
I love that they’re a not-for-profit business with accreditations by the Mental Health Commission (MHC). Aside from that, patients love that this is one of the most affordable inpatient hospitals in Ireland, offering 208 beds.
When getting help here, they mainly only accept GP referrals if it isn’t an emergency. Still, their facilities are great. Plus, they can easily help anyone recover through holistic methods, such as talk therapies.
Their specialist services cover young and older adults, with remote services available. For specific conditions that they cater to, some notable ones are anxiety disorders and bipolar disorders.
Aside from these, they’re also great at helping addicts recover and can provide psychosis recovery. I’ve even spoken to a patient who’d undergone their eating disorder programme that helped them stave off the pangs of the disorder.
I have improved so much in the last number of years
“Dr Gavin Rush and his team are absolutely amazing with me. By the time I met them I was so lost and unwell that I doubt anyone thought I would survive. I have improved so much in the last number of years it’s hard to believe. I could never praise them enough. I reckon my consultant is probably the best in Europe, I’m very lucky.”

I’ve noticed real, positive changes in my daily life
“After moving from South Africa to Ireland, I faced one of the biggest challenges of my life. The excitement of starting over was mixed with the stress of adjusting to a new environment while managing my ADHD. I often felt scattered, restless, and overwhelmed, and I even lost the ability to sit down and enjoy reading — something that used to bring me so much joy.
Seeking professional help from ADHD NOW was one of the best decisions I’ve made. From the very first session, the team made me feel understood and supported. They took the time to get to know my personal challenges and designed a treatment plan that truly fit my needs. With their guidance and patience, I started medication — and I’m happy to say that the transition has been smooth and successful.
I’ve noticed real, positive changes in my daily life. I’m able to focus better, stay calm under pressure, and enjoy the things that matter most to me again. Most importantly, I can now sit down and read books — something I thought I had lost the ability to do after my move.
Thanks to ADHD NOW, I feel more balanced, calm, and happy than I’ve felt in a long time. Their care and professionalism have helped me not only manage my ADHD, but also embrace my new life in Ireland with confidence and peace of mind.”

Many flock to St. John of God University Hospital for inpatient treatment since it’s one of the leading mental health hospitals in Ireland. Impressively, they hold JCI and NDIS accreditation and are fully ISO 9001 compliant.
Some of their more notable services are inpatient treatments for addictions and depression. Each treatment plan is highly tailored to each individual.
Many patients have undergone sessions of helpful talk therapy and invaluable occupational therapy, which have helped them cope with difficult situations. Additionally, these also include peer-led support groups.
Other services that they offer are outpatient services for eating and mood disorders. These include medication, talk therapy, and family therapy. All of these are highly appreciated by parents.
While they only provide services to those who receive a GP’s referral, I’d still recommend this hospital since they’re one of the few services that offer unique later-life psychiatry. Plus, it has around 180-183 inpatient beds for greater comfort.
Went above and beyond to help me succeed in recovering
“I was admitted into the hospital on November 30th 2024, I was in there on my road to recovery with severe depression and also suffering the effects of Borderline personality disorder, which had got worse over 3-4 years.
I was admitted and put in the care of the nurses and staff in St Paul’s ward. From the second I arrived I was made to feel like I was more than just a patient. Every member of staff couldn’t have done anymore. Every nurse went above and beyond to help me succeed in recovering and leaving better than I ever have been in my life, in March this year.
My MST team were were amazing, they took there time and worked with me to make me feel better. From changing my medication, to 1 to 1 psychology, and DBT therapy. I couldn’t have got through it all without my team of doctors.
The whole staff I had treat me or look after me in the ward were the most respectful and truly wonderful people ive ever had the pleasure to meet.”

The hospital had excellent covid-19 protocols and provided fair and balanced measures which is in line with their compassionate approach across the board.
