The 5 best nursing homes in Dublin offering outstanding senior care
With the hectic life of a Dubliner, we can sometimes forget about caring for our parents. As they grow older, they need better and more professional care that we simply can’t provide.
That’s where nursing homes come in, since they’re great at offering top-notch care for the elderly. They’re also equipped to handle all sorts of ailments, especially dementia.
After talking to a few friends and extended family members, I’ve come up with a list of the best nursing homes in Dublin. They’ll easily take care of the elderly and make sure their last few years are happy ones.
How much does a month at a nursing home cost in Dublin?
A month at a nursing home in Dublin costs around €4,800 to €8,000. This will depend entirely on the nursing home, but the main factors affecting the price are the facilities and the level of care they provide to the elderly housed there.
1. Beechtree Nursing Home

Address: Murragh, Oldtown, Co. Dublin, Ireland
Contact Details: +353 1 843 3634
Operating Hours: Open 24 hours
Beechtree Nursing Home’s staff are highly qualified individuals with experience working with residents with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
The head nurse, Gireesh Nair, is accredited with the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and has been a qualified nurse for over 21 years.
He works closely with the registered nurses at the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) here. I can honestly say their efforts are highly appreciated.
They offer three different care types. Long-term care is best for frail residents who may need end-of-life care. Short-term care is best for residents who have just undergone surgery and need a bit of respite from daily life.
Lastly, there’s a dedicated dementia care facility that works closely with the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland. In fact, families say their older relatives are loved and cared for here.
Additionally, some activities here are quite entertaining, with my favourites being their music programme and physiotherapy classes. Additionally, there’s a television security system that monitors everyone.
However, it can be difficult to visit since it’s located near the border of County Dublin.
The care is excellent from all the staff
“I spent a week recovering from hip replacement, accommodation is spacious and modern, the care is excellent from all the staff. Nothing is too much trouble. It is a smiling happy location and actually put you in good humour just talking and interacting with the staff. I could not Rate this Home highly enough”

2. Beechfield Manor Nursing Home

Address: Beechfield Manor, Shanganagh, Dublin, Ireland
Contact Details: +353 1 282 4874
Operating Hours: Open 24 hours
Beechfield Manor Nursing Home has been led by Sreeja Saseendran, who has 19 years of experience in elderly care. The unique feature of this nursing home is its promotion of residents’ autonomy, which improves their quality of life.
Care is split between six groups. The main ones are elderly care, disability care for younger adults, and dementia care. Others include more temporary arrangements, like convalescent and secondary rehabilitation.
Activities mainly include exercise classes that boost seniors’ energy, and art classes such as flower arranging and pottery. I’ve also seen them provide great aromatherapy and pet therapy to residents.
Another great aspect of their care is their frequent outings and parties to local locations, helping residents be part of the community they live in. They’re also registered with HIQA.
However, admission here is difficult and requires approval from both parties before proceeding.
She was looked after so well by all the staff

3. Leeson Park Nursing Home

Address: 10 Leeson Park, Ranelagh, D06 TC65, Ireland
Contact Details: +353 1 497 6500
Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday: 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM
Leeson Park Nursing Home is a HIQA-accredited nursing home under the Silver Stream Healthcare group. Here, residents come first, and they’ve been providing care for over 30 years.
Leeson Park is grand in its presentation, and the elderly will always feel well cared for during their stay. Additionally, they have various recreational areas. As a matter of fact, residents found the sitting room and library to be a relaxing spot to converse with fellow residents.
Accommodation is also available in single or companion options, with assisted bath and shower rooms.
Other notable inclusions include their prayer room, which is quiet and ideal for reflection. Additionally, the penthouse suite is great for those willing to pay a little extra for grandeur.
What truly impressed me was their activities. Musicians visit often, offering live entertainment to residents. Residents are also encouraged to focus on their hobbies to make their time here more fulfilling.
But then again, I found this facility quite expensive, even for a nursing home.

4. Griffeen Valley Nursing Home

Address: Esker Rd, Esker South, Lucan, Co. Dublin, K78 V208, Ireland
Contact Details: +353 1 624 9736
Operating Hours: Open 24 hours
Established in 1994, Griffeen Valley Nursing Home is quite exclusive, housing only 26 residents at a time. As a result, their high staff-to-resident ratio enables them to closely monitor residents and provide up-close care.
There are 19 single rooms and 3 double rooms, all wonderfully furnished. The bathrooms are fitted with mobility aids, and I was impressed that each one has an easy-to-reach emergency call button.
As for the other rooms, there’s a bright sunroom and a spacious TV room for residents to gather. For quieter times, there’s the oratory and reading room, perfect for relaxation.
There’s visiting clergy here every Sunday for mass, and a GP who offers free care to medical card holders. Residents also enjoy personal laundry services.
I found the activities to be interesting, with hand manicure services for pampering and arts and crafts for the creative folk. Photography sessions are also available to preserve memories.
Communication with the family is always clear and supportive

5. St. Joseph’s Shankill

Address: Crinken Lane, Shankill, Dublin 18, Ireland
Contact Details: +353 1 282 3000
Operating Hours: Open 24 hours
St. Joseph’s Shankill focuses on dementia residents and is accredited by Dementia Care Matters. Although their residences house only up to 13 residents, they receive great care from local GPs.
They have a strict waitlist, requiring secure funding and being ready for immediate admission. Still, I love their care plans because families are involved in their creation, and they are updated every 4 months.
Residents also enjoy a number of great activities. Notable ones include outings to Dublin Zoo or Powerscourt and summer parties. There’s also yoga services here and arts and crafts activities to keep the elderly active.
Another great aspect of this home is its strict mealtimes. While breakfast is flexible, lunch and supper are followed strictly to give residents a sense of routine.
There’s also daycare and respite care servic
This place is a benchmark for how all nursing homes should be
“I visited my auntie while I was on a visit to Dublin from England, it was a lovely day everyone was in their gorgeous garden, a Gospel choir was singing, it was beautiful. It is an incredible place, I could see how well cared for my auntie and all the other residents were. The staff are so warm and friendly and do an incredible job. This place is a benchmark for how all nursing homes should be, God Bless them.”

St. Joseph’s is the nicest and most caring nursing home
“I visited a friend who was in this nursing home for one weeks respite care to day ! I was very impressed from the moment I walked in the main door – reception staff and care staff were very friendly and welcoming – the whole place was bright and cheery and I don.t think I ever saw a nursing home where the patients were treated with such dignity and care. I was there during meal time and the patients were being fed and spoken to with love and attention.
We tend to complain about our health service – St. Joseph,s is the nicest and most caring nursing home I have ever visited! I trained and worked as a nurse myself both in Ireland and abroad and It is most impressive – congratulations to all staff and management !”
