5 best blood test clinics in Dublin for accurate readings

Range of Services: I chose facilities that offer more than just blood tests, with clinics that provide infection screenings for diseases like HIV and syphilis ranked higher than others.

Accreditation and Certifications: I selected facilities that hold ISO 15189 accreditation, as legally operating blood testing facilities are required to have it to practice.

Technology and Equipment Used: I chose blood testing facilities with up-to-date equipment that utilises modern practices, enabling efficient, quick execution of complex tests.

Timeliness of Result Release: I mainly prioritised blood testing facilities that offer same-day or day-after result release for convenience.

Accessibility: I sought out blood testing facilities accessible by main roads or public transport, as this eased the burden of travelling from a facility to a GP’s office.

Blood work is typically performed following a consultation with a general practitioner, particularly when diagnostic evaluation is required. However, finding a dependable facility in Dublin can be challenging, especially for individuals who may feel apprehensive about the process.

Blood testing centres are fully equipped to accommodate a wide range of patients. They conduct blood draws and other diagnostic examinations that assist general practitioners in establishing accurate medical assessments.

Having undergone several blood tests in adulthood, I believe I have identified some of the most reliable blood test clinics in Dublin. Even for those who may be uneasy around needles, these clinics strive to make the experience as comfortable as possible.

How much does a comprehensive blood test cost in Dublin?

A comprehensive blood test in Dublin typically costs between €50 and €550. This can increase or decrease depending on available packages and whether the consultation requires GP services before proceeding.

The Health Lab doesn’t require a GP referral. I love their services because I can get my results within 48 hours, sometimes the same day.

Unlike other clinics, The Health Lab’s services are extensive. They have over 30 different tests available, and patients can have almost everything checked here. Some notable tests include lipid profile tests and liver and kidney function tests.

There are also affordable packages, with most patients availing of their signature blood test, which is their best-value test.

Patients can even create specific packages for a small fee of €20. I’ve spoken to a patient who combined their fertility health blood test with a rheumatology blood test, which came out cheaper.

Additionally, the clinic is ISO-certified and UKAS-accredited, which is reassuring.

However, they’re located in Kildare, so it may take a while for you to arrive there by bus or train.

  • UKAS-accredited laboratory
  • Results are released within 48 hours
  • 30 different tests available
  • Unique packages for cheaper tests
  • Can create specific test packages

Cons

  • Far from the city centre

Excellent professional service

“I had to get blood test quite urgently and found the Health Lab service online. I live in Meath and went to Duleek where the service is offered. Excellent, professional service. Very reasonable cost. Excellent printout of results within 24 hrs. I would definitely use again. This service fills a gap in our health services where it can be difficult and expensive to get blood test through the GP. I give it the Health Lab high recommendation.”

Founded by Linda O’Connor in 2014, Bloodworks has utilised Linda’s expertise as a phlebotomist since 1992 to provide great phlebotomy and blood testing to all patients.

Linda and her team offer 40 different tests for men and women. These are all-encompassing tests that can find diseases that other clinics might overlook. A few specific areas include are muscles and the pancreas.

Blood work is also provided for children, but these are only available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Additionally, they offer vitamin checks, which patients adore because they help them reform their diets.

Uniquely, they offer genetic tests at around €200-€220 each. Patients I’ve spoken to have utilised these to look for diseases across their family line.

They also offer Platelet-Rich Plasma treatment, which is great for those looking to return to a more youthful glow.

However, I found some of their packages to be a bit expensive.

Pros

  • 40 different tests for men and women
  • Registered phlebotomist
  • Offers blood work to children
  • Wide range of services

Cons

  • Packages don’t offer much in terms of discounts

The whole appointment was so efficient

“This was my second time at Bloodworks having my blood done with Linda. The whole appointment was so efficient and quick! Linda is an absolute superstar, she’s welcoming, calming, and really puts you at ease, which means a lot since I’m always anxious about blood tests. The new clinic is bright, modern, and very comfortable. One of the main reasons I keep coming back is the incredibly fast turnaround for results. Highly recommend”

Excellent customer-focused service

“Linda and Team provide an excellent customer focused service. They are very friendly and professional.

The booking system, appointment availability, adherence to appointment time and result turn around are more of the advantages of using Bloodworks.

Very lucky to have such a wonderful facility in north county Dublin.”

They respond very quickly

“I had a great experience with DBT. The service was excellent from start to finish. They responded very quickly with a quotation and had flexible appointment availability. The customer service was really good, and the person who took my blood in Clonee was extremely friendly, helpful, and highly skilled. I have small veins, but he managed to take the blood quickly and completely pain-free.

The results came back fast, were easy to understand, and I really appreciated that they also provided guidance if something required a doctor’s attention. I will definitely use DBT again and I highly recommend their services.”

Testing services at Jervis Medical Centre are routinely conducted to continuously monitor patients’ health with their in-house GPs. I can say that their GPs are great, especially Dr. Hakhamanesh, who is registered with the Health Service Executive (HSE).

Blood tests here are usually done in the mornings with proper fasting. As for follow-up appointments, these are given to discuss more troubling results. Some of the tests include full blood count tests and thyroid tests.

Vaccines protect against viruses like Hepatitis A and B, as well as Polio. Patients and pregnant women have used these with great success when travelling to other countries.

Other services here include blood pressure services and STI testing. I’ve even met a patient who had their warts frozen in this clinic, stating it was a quick and painless procedure.

Still, I would have wished their blood tests had more than just the routine ones, since other smaller clinics provide more than these.

Pros

  • GP-led facility
  • Blood tests are done routinely
  • Quick and accurate testing
  • Wide range of GP services
  • Variety of testing services

Cons

  • Only provides common blood tests

Goes above and beyond in his duty of care

“Helpful, friendly and efficient staff. Dr Haka goes above and beyond in his duty of care. I know I’m in good hands there. Everyone from the reception staff to the practice nurse, they are all kind and professional. No hesitation at all in recommended Jervis Medical Centre.”
