The 5 Best Animal Hospitals in Dublin for Trusted Veterinary Care

  • Available Hours: Emergencies rarely happen during standard business hours, so access to an open clinic gives you peace of mind. Our team checked the schedules of every facility to see who actually staffs the building overnight.
  • Diagnostic Equipment: Fast answers are crucial when your pet is in pain. We looked at whether a clinic relies on basic X-rays or if they have advanced tools like in-house laboratories.
  • Service Range: Some pets need simple vaccinations, while others require complex surgery. The review process noted exactly what procedures each surgical team can handle on-site.
  • Cost Accessibility: Vet bills escalate quickly, which makes transparent pricing important for owners on a budget. We examined the consultation fees and whether they offer charity rates for those who qualify.
  • Specialist Care: Not every vet is trained to handle reptiles or complex internal medicine. We noted which hospitals accept referrals and which ones have dedicated exotic animal wards.

A sick pet can be frightening, especially when an emergency happens in the middle of the night. With so many veterinary clinics to choose from, it can be difficult to know which ones offer emergency care or have the diagnostic equipment your pet needs.

You need someone reliable to keep your companion healthy. To save you the stress, our team researched local providers and verified their credentials to see who truly delivers.

Here are the best animal hospitals in Dublin, and exactly what each one does best.

1. MyVet Lucan

myvet-lucan

Website:https://www.myvet.ie/

Address: Lucan Road, Ballydowd, Lucan, Co.

Contact: 01 601 0060

Hours: Monday-Friday: 9:00 AM-7:45 PM; Saturday: 9:00 AM-4:30 PM; Sunday: 10:00 AM-4:30 PM for emergency/urgent cases only

MyVet Lucan has fully staffed wards, allowing hospitalised pets to receive veterinary supervision throughout the night. This provides added reassurance for owners whose pets need close monitoring after treatment or during recovery.

Their diagnostic setup is excellent for complex cases, especially since they run a dedicated CT building adjacent to the hospital.

We dropped by late one evening to ask about their Toshiba Aquilion 32-slice scanner, and the staff happily explained how it helps spot issues basic X-rays miss.

The trade-off is that their Sunday hours are strictly limited to emergency cases, which deters those who prefer a walk-in on that day.

Pros

  • Staffed 24 hours a day
  • Advanced 32-slice CT scanner
  • Accepts outpatient CT referrals
  • Wide range of routine care

Cons

  • Sundays restricted to emergencies

I highly recommend My Vet Referrals

My cat has just received the all‑clear after six months of complex orthopaedic treatment, including a total hip replacement and knee surgery. Ciaran and the whole team were fantastic throughout— skilled, calm, and genuinely caring. Ciaran’s confidence and reassurance made a huge difference, and I always felt she was in the best hands. I was kept updated throughout and I am so grateful for everything they’ve done. I highly recommend My Vet Referrals. .

Big thank you to MyVetLucan for their continued care to our big boy

Happy Birthday to Diego, 6 today, and a big thank you to MyVetLucan for their continued care to our big boy! I think it says everything when he still gets extremely excited when we tell him he is going to see Jenny who never complains about the excessive drool he leaves behind!!  Thanks to the reception staff also who are helpful and always with a smile and a friendly hello.

The veterinary surgeons here can do a surprisingly broad range of procedures, which means you rarely have to be referred elsewhere.

They tackle soft tissue surgeries and some orthopaedic jobs, and they even operate late in the evening if a case demands it. This makes them one of the best veterinarians around for comprehensive care.

However, they’re closed on Sundays. This may be inconvenient for pet owners who need veterinary care over the weekend, as they’ll have to find another clinic for appointments or emergencies.

Medical knowledge and compassionate care are second to none

We are incredibly grateful to Mark and his team at Terenure Veterinary Hospital. His medical knowledge and compassionate care are second to none. He saved our cat’s life and went above and beyond to extend her lifespan.

I trust his judgement completely. He explains options without pressure and answers every question patiently.

Will never go anywhere else

Have used this practice for many years now and find them absolutely fantastic. Always take very good care, and are kind to both owners and animals. Have brought all our dogs there from puppies and throughout their lives, and when it came to end of life, they couldn’t have tried harder or been more empathetic. Will never go anywhere else!

A charity established back in 1926, St. Francis Animal Dispensary provides professional care at reduced rates for owners with limited means. They offer a full animal care programme, tackling everything from microchipping to specialised diabetes care.

Despite being a charity, they don’t compromise on modern medical techniques.

In fact, they recently invested over €50,000 into building upgrades and installed a state-of-the-art IDEXX Haematology and Biochemistry machine. This allows their dedicated staff to run advanced blood panels on-site for more accurate diagnoses.

Sadly, you can’t just walk in, as the clinic operates strictly by appointment. They’re also closed on weekends, making this practice best suited for eligible clients who need excellent routine care rather than out-of-hours intervention.

Pros

  • Affordable charity rates for eligible clients
  • Specialised diabetes care clinics
  • Modern Idexx haematology equipment
  • Ongoing training for veterinary staff

Cons

Sandymount Vets is an independent companion-animal clinic established in 1998, offering primary veterinary care alongside personalised nutritional advice.

Their guidance helps pet owners choose suitable diets based on their pets’ age, health conditions, and dietary needs.

We called them about pet weight management, and their veterinary nurses were incredibly helpful in breaking down healthy feeding routines.

Moreover, they back up their daily care with an impressive array of diagnostic tools. Their digital radiography suite features a dental X-ray unit that delivers high-quality images in seconds, allowing vets to quickly spot bone issues or foreign bodies.

They also run in-house blood analysers for same-day results.

Unfortunately, they don’t manage their own emergencies, directing those cases to a nearby pet hospital instead.

  • High-quality digital radiography suite
  • Independent clinic with experienced nurses

Cons

  • No walk-in consultation service

Contact: (01) 716 6002

Their diagnostic capabilities go far beyond the usual offerings, featuring fluoroscopy and MRI machines.

On top of that, they treat a vast range of species, so owners of exotic animals and farm livestock can access physiotherapy and internal medicine here. They even run a dedicated blood donor clinic.

The catch is that this large university setting can feel different for owners who prefer a small, intimate clinic environment. They’re also an appointment-only hospital, making it the right option for scheduled advanced diagnostics rather than immediate walk-in care.

First class care from people who are genuinely good at what they do

My dog spent a week in the ICU here in February. Dr. Robyn is amazing — as are all the staff, the nurses, Dermot at the front desk, everyone. First class care from people who are genuinely good at what they do and clearly care deeply. You never want your pet to need a place like this, but if they do, this is the one. My dog still loves going back, which says everything about how well she was treated there. Eternally grateful..

Everything was handled well and smooth

Fast enough service during emergency hours (night and weekend). Our puppy had swallowed a stone and the staff here did everything they could for him to get back home safe and sound in 24 hours. He wasn’t able to vomit it, so surgery was needed and everything was handled well and smooth. Wound is recovering well, and all advice, paperwork, and support was provided, very helpful. Thank you to all the staff
