Restorative treatments for pain relief with the 5 best osteopaths in Dublin

  • Licensing and Credentials: I picked osteopaths with proper licensing and credentials. Primarily, I sought osteopaths who are accredited by the Osteopathic Council of Ireland (OCI).
  • Extent of Treatment Plans: I chose osteopaths who have an extensive treatment plan. Those who can draft ones for patients with complex illnesses, like cranial osteopathy, were ranked higher than others.
  • Reviews and Reputation: I sought out osteopaths with excellent reviews and reputations. When considering my own experience and that of others, I can gain a better understanding of each clinic’s services.
  • Specialisations: I selected osteopaths with various specialisations, such as paediatrics or cardiology.
  • Ease of Access: I selected osteopaths who are easily accessible. Due to the conditions surrounding osteopathy, clinics that are easily accessible by public transport or main roads were highly preferred.

When my older brother had a bad fall during a game, we were completely lost. We tried everything—from physical therapy to holistic treatments—but nothing seemed to help. It was heartbreaking to watch him struggle without any sign of progress.

During one appointment, another patient suggested we see an osteopath—a blend of both approaches we’d already tried. To our surprise, it worked. Within a few months, my brother began regaining movement and was finally able to walk without his cane.

After that experience and hearing similar stories from others, I’ve compiled a list of the best osteopaths in Dublin.

How much does osteopathic treatment cost in Dublin?

An osteopathic treatment in Dublin typically costs between €75 and €90 for the initial session. Additional sessions can be more expensive or less expensive, depending on the clinic and the severity of the patient’s case, such as those with arthritis.

Dublin City Osteopath is the city’s premier Osteopathic clinic, having provided services for over 27 years. I’ve personally seen them treat patients uniquely and provide personalised plans that save time and money.

Treatment here involves both in-clinic and at-home procedures, forming the holistic approach for which osteopaths are known.

Most patients will get 1-3 treatments for their cases. But for special cases, these can increase depending on the severity. Many patients, including my brother, have reported that pain was reduced during the first session alone.

Each session lasts 45 minutes. Their osteopaths offer valuable advice on managing pain, even providing targeted exercises to alleviate specific ailments.

I am thankful that they have parking on-site. This ensures that things stay quick and hassle-free. I also found their staff to be charming, and I appreciate the discounts they offer to students and unemployed adults.

While their treatment plans are effective, patients have noticed that the clinic can cancel appointments on short notice with little to no explanation. I’d suggest calling an hour beforehand to be sure.

Pros

  • Over 27 years of experience
  • Best in Ireland award
  • Offers personalised treatment plans
  • Extensive treatment options
  • Provides on-site parking
  • Offers discounts

The future of pain relief is here

“The Future of Pain Relief is Here

I went to Dublin City osteopath as a last resort, feeling completely defeated by chronic pain. I’d tried everything: physical therapy, massage, even chiropractic adjustments…but nothing seemed to provide lasting relief. I was skeptical, but from the moment I walked in, I knew this place was different.

The staff is incredibly professional and welcoming, but it’s the expertise of the osteopathic physicians that truly sets this clinic apart. They don’t just treat the symptoms; they find and address the root cause of the pain. My initial consultation was the most thorough I’ve ever experienced. They took the time to understand my full medical history and lifestyle before creating a personalized treatment plan.

The results have been nothing short of life-changing. After just a few sessions, the constant ache in my lower back and neck has significantly decreased. I have more mobility, better sleep, and I can finally do the activities I love without being in constant pain.

If you’re struggling with chronic pain, back pain, neck pain, or sciatica, I cannot recommend Peter enough. They’re true experts in osteopathic medicine and have given me my life back. This isn’t just a clinic; it’s a place of healing and hope.”

MyBackPain holds accreditations with Aviva and the Health and Safety Authority, which greatly reassured me regarding their services. With a partnership between Mark Smyth and Brian Kinsella, the duo works tirelessly to help out their patients.

The clinic primarily treats injuries but can also assist with instances involving stress. Other relief options include migraines and pregnancy-related concerns around the hip area, which are rare offers in the osteopathic field.

Treatment also factors in radiological investigations, such as X-rays and MRIs. A staff member informed me that bringing these can help improve each patient’s treatment plan.

Booking an appointment is easy, and patients can do it all on the clinic’s website. One of the benefits of MyBackPain is that patients pay the same price for both initial and subsequent visits.

However, note that contacting them outside of office hours is difficult, so they may not be ideal for emergencies.

The number of sessions will vary depending on the concerns of each patient, and I’ve seen firsthand how much the team cares for their patients. Sessions are also longer than usual, being 40 minutes per session.

Pros

  • Accredited with different associations
  • Easy booking process
  • Wide range of treatment coverage
  • Treats niche conditions
  • Integrates radiological investigations
  • Long sessions

Cons

  • Unreliable during emergencies

Brian gave me the best support

“I’ve been going to the clinic since I was 7 months pregnant and my only regret is that I haven’t been earlier.

Brian gave me the best support I could wish for and thanks to him in my last months of pregnancy I did not suffer from any back or hip pain as I was before. I am recommending this cabinet for everyone I know!”

He has a great way with people and will always put u at ease. I’ve have recommended a number of people to go to Mark over the years and they’ve all had the same experience. I couldn’t recommend Mark’s practice high enough.”

William Hauxwell of Castlewood Clinic has been an osteopath for 25 years. He provides his own unique and effective treatment system that manipulates certain joints to give relief to patients.

He mainly specialises in lower back pain and utilises radiological means to get a clearer picture of each case. Some of his methods include exercise and spinal manipulation to remove back pain quickly and effectively.

Additionally, many of his patients utilise painkillers for severe cases. The number of sessions is typically 4-5, with additional sessions provided for complex cases. However, most patients report feeling better around the third session.

Other forms of treatment that he provides are massages and stretching. For those experiencing headaches, he introduces cranial osteopathy. I’ve had a great experience with cranial osteopathy and felt quick relief from my headaches.

When patients are dealing with extreme stress or muscle strains, he opts to use dry needling or acupuncture. Patients who’ve undergone this treatment report that it’s painless and have noticed significant improvement after the procedure.

While his treatments are good, the services are expensive. But I’d say the price is worth it due to the high success rates.

Pros

  • 25 years of experience
  • Offers unique treatments
  • Utilises radiological scans
  • Wide range of treatment coverage
  • Offers acupuncture services

Cons

  • Expensive services

I could feel the relief from the first session

“I highly recommend William. I’ve visited few months ago for neck and low back pain, and his treatment was extremely effective. I could feel the relief from the first session.”

I can say I definitely found relief

“I absolutely recommend William at Castlewood Clinic. A very smooth and reassuring process was in place each time I visited, and I was guided through all adjustments so I understood exactly what was occurring – it was my first time experiencing osteopathic treatments.

After several visits and now 6 months later, I can say I definitely found relief for long-standing shoulder and neck pain, and Will made it easy to commit to trusting the process. He was incredibly attentive, and a great confidant!”

With over a decade of experience, Yael has been working closely with her patients as a one-woman team. She manages patients’ pain well through her strong background in biomedical sciences.

After reviewing her accreditations—particularly with Irish Life Health and Laya—patients felt reassured by her extensive training in diverse osteopathic and physiotherapy techniques.

Her osteopathy practice encompasses three primary types: structural, craniosacral, and women’s health osteopathy.

Structural osteopathy is great for back pain. She utilises deep tissue therapies and spinal manipulations to quickly bring relief to patients. I’ve met elderly patients who could easily carry their grandkids thanks to her.

When discussing craniosacral osteopathy, it primarily focuses on relieving stress in the neck and skull area. Yael offers great massages that relieve tension in these areas, which she claims to remove stress.

Lastly, she works with pregnant and post-pregnancy women to reduce the pain of pregnancy. Patients have experienced relief from leg and hip pain after pregnancy.

Unfortunately, it can be difficult to cancel appointments with her due to her 24-hour post-booking cancellation policy.

Pros

  • Utilises physical therapy techniques
  • Long list of accreditations
  • Works closely with women patients
  • Wide range of services
  • Offers treatment during and post-pregnancy

Cons

  • Difficulty in cancelling appointments

Practical advice and considerate attention make for a wonderful combination

“Really lovely experience overall, yael was really attentive took a considerable amount of time listening to what was bothering me before taking any action. I’ve been suffering from migraines for 5 years now and after attending GP’s and going for traditional massages for relief/treatment i really feel that the treatments I received here have pointed me in the direction of recovery. Practical advice and considerate attention make for a wonderful combination 10/10 would recommend to a friend and just working out a slot in my calender for another visit! Also on a very practical note visits are covered by laya with half back which helps to give piece of mind.”

Gentle and clear in her approach to treatments

“Yael was recommended to me by a friend. I was delighted to find an osteopath who specialised in women’s health. That immediately put me at ease knowing that Yael would take my overall health into consideration when treating me.

Yael’s website is very clear and easy to navigate. It is a seamless booking process and on booking I received a message from Yael giving me clear instructions on her location. All very much appreciated for my first visit.

Yael is very empathetic, gentle and clear in her approach to treatments. She talks you through each step she is doing and checks in regularly to make sure you are comfortable. I really appreciated the visuals she has for showing the anatomy. As a visual person it helped me make sense of what was going on internally.

I’m delighted to have found Yael and have already recommended her to friends.”

Blanche de Montalivet’s practice stands out for its inclusive approach, providing specialised care for adults, teenagers, and even newborns.
