These 5 best veterinarians in Dublin easily nurse pets back to health

  • Credentials and Accreditations: I picked veterinarians with great credentials and accreditations. Those with ties to Veterinary Ireland and the Veterinary Council of Ireland were prioritised over others.
  • Availability and Location: I chose veterinarians who are available at any time of day. Emergencies often arise with pets, and being able to visit their clinic quickly can prevent any life-threatening downtime.
  • State of Facilities and Equipment: I selected veterinary clinics that have modernised facilities and equipment.
  • Insurance Policy: I selected veterinary clinics with a comprehensive insurance policy. Clinics covered by insurance can be a lifesaver, especially when faced with expensive veterinary costs.
  • Range of Care: I prioritised veterinary clinics that have a range of care for different types of animals.

My friend’s two rescue bunnies from Dublin have always been a bit fragile. One battles recurring respiratory infections, while the other struggles with digestive issues. Regular vet visits have become routine.

Fortunately, Dublin has no shortage of skilled veterinarians who know how to care for pets in ways most owners can’t. They’re the people owners turn to when basic home care isn’t enough.

With my friend’s experience and a few trusted local recommendations, I’ve gathered some of the best veterinarians in Dublin so you can find reliable care for your pets whenever they need it most.

How much does a vet consultation cost in Dublin?

Vet consultations in Dublin typically cost between €60 and €65. However, pricing will be affected by the species of the animal and the specific problem, like a broken bone. Other factors, like medication, are not included in the consultation fee.

As a private practice, Palmerstown Veterinary Hospital offers a comprehensive range of care for all types of pets. I have built a lasting relationship with their veterinarians, and I’ve also met other owners who share the same sentiment.

What stood out to me was their dedicated service in teaching new pet owners how to take care of and train kittens and puppies. This is a great service since training is one of the biggest hurdles to raising cats and dogs.

Palmerstown provides an extensive treatment plan for pets. These are promotional bundles that come with free visits.

These include other freebies, such as annual vaccinations and discounts. I’ve used their rabbit health plans to great effect, and it only costs me €15 per month.

Aside from pets, their vets can provide healthcare visits to exotic animals, such as parrots (I’ve even seen snakes and chinchillas at the clinic).

Dental is available here. And of course, they have great neutering and other surgical procedures.

However, sudden schedule changes can occur due to emergencies, so I suggest calling an hour before the appointment.

Pros

  • Private practice
  • Builds lasting relationships with pet owners
  • Offers dedicated care for younger pets
  • Wide range of treatment options
  • Offers annual bundles
  • Provides dental services for pets
  • Works with exotic animals

Cons

  • Sudden changes in scheduling

I was thoroughly impressed with the level of care

“I was thoroughly impressed with the level of care and professionalism at Palmerstown Vet. When my cat, Juno, needed a procedure, I was kept fully informed throughout the entire process. The veterinarian contacted me before, during, and after the procedure to explain each step clearly and ensure I was reassured. They even followed up the next day to check on Juno’s recovery. I was provided with a detailed cost estimate upfront, with no unexpected or unnecessary charges. Their transparency, communication, and genuine care for animals are truly commendable.”

The vets are highly knowledgeable

“can’t recommend Palmerstown Vet enough! I have three ferrets, and finding a vet experienced with exotic animals isn’t always easy—but they are truly exceptional. The vets are highly knowledgeable, professional, and experienced, which gives me complete confidence in their care.

What truly sets them apart, though, is their kindness. Everyone at the clinic is warm, patient, and genuinely cares about the well-being of the animals. They always take the time to explain everything clearly and make sure both pets and owners feel at ease.”

I love Village Vets for their separate wards for cats and dogs. This is perfect for those with aggressive pets, and I’ve seen a few owners breathe a sigh of relief upon discovering this.

Village Vets is a modern clinic that offers advanced practices, including microchipping. Many owners found this to be reliable at locating their missing and care-free pets.

Other services that they offer include spaying and neutering. I’ve seen this done quickly compared to other clinics. Additionally, diagnostics are available for all types of pets.

For new kitten owners, many swear by their kitten care. This provides comprehensive care to sick and adopted kittens. They also offer quick and painless dental services.

And when emergencies arise, Village Vets offers immediate care for minor injuries and emergencies. But since they’re a small clinic, more critical emergencies and euthanasia procedures can’t be done here.

Still, I appreciate that health insurance is accepted via Vets Plans. Just note that you will need to inquire about this at their office, as it’s unique for each pet.

Pros

  • Separate wards for cats and dogs
  • Installs microchips
  • Works with all types of pets
  • Wide range of services
  • Dedicated kitten care services
  • Offers health insurance

Cons

  • Can’t handle critical emergencies
  • Doesn’t provide euthanasia procedures

They are very diligent and leave no stone unturned

“Plato is a rescue dog Yorkshire Terrier. He finds trust hard especially when he’s out of his comfort zone. The Staff in Village Vets Cabra he loves all of them. His tail starts wagging from the time we go in till after he says his good byes. They treat him with such care & warmth he has built up a real trusting relationship with him. They are very diligent and leave no stone unturned until they get to the bottom of whats wrong with him.

They also have a Vets Plan for your animal and I would really recommend asking about this ask its like health insurance.

Dublin Bay Vets is ideal for pets that aren’t comfortable with visiting the vet. They utilise toys and techniques that can calm pets down. If that doesn’t work, their vets are patient and will do anything to make them comfortable.

Registration at this clinic is easy and can be done online. They’re perfect for those seeking a second opinion, and most owners switch to them due to their excellent services.

The three main pet types that they cover are dogs, cats, and rabbits. But don’t worry, they can work with other types of pets, like rats.

Being a substantially sized clinic, they offer a wide range of treatments here. Diagnostic imaging is available, which is a rare offering for smaller veterinary practices. I’ve had our bunny’s blood and urine analysed here for a fee, and it was done fairly quickly.

Hospitalisation is another top-notch option. Other pet owners have also availed their surgery, which comes with great anaesthesia. Euthanasia options are also available at the clinic, but this is treated as a last resort.

Even when they offer great services, their prices are higher than those of other clinics, including private ones.

Pros

  • Specialises in working with nervous animals
  • Covers all types of pets
  • Great for second opinions
  • Easy registration procedures
  • Offers diagnostic treatments
  • Wide range of services
  • Offers euthanasia procedures

Cons

  • Expensive treatment

Can’t recommend this clinic highly enough

“I brought our dog Kaala here today, and I can’t recommend this clinic highly enough.

Dave, who has been caring for Kaala since 2023, helped us with a minor eye issue and provided detailed guidance on monitor it and what treatment options are available. The follow up email was very clear and professional. Definitely better than most human healthcare!

Thank you for treating Kaala with such kindness and care. And thank you as well to the lovely reception team.

Highly recommended!”

Raheny Veterinary Hospital specialises in preventative healthcare services that keep pets healthy. Many pet owners commend them for helping to extend the life expectancy of strays and sickly pets.

One unique offering they have is animal physiotherapy. This is a great option for elderly pets and strays who have suffered injuries.

Additionally, being a modernised hospital, many pet owners rave about their quick microchipping services.

Aside from these, dental services are also available here. Since Raheny is a hospital, there are also surgery and euthanasia procedures.

Additionally, registration is straightforward, and I was able to complete it all on their website. Requesting repeat prescriptions for maintenance medication is a quick process that takes only a few hours.

While these are expensive, I appreciate that other pet owners have come to love the Pet Health Club. This health insurance provides an unlimited number of consultations. Just note that it has limited coverage of cats and dogs.

Pros

  • Specialises in preventative healthcare
  • Ease of registration
  • Quick prescription refills
  • Offers pet insurance
  • Wide range of services

Cons

  • Limited pet coverage for insurance

I’ve been taking my dogs here for probably thirty years

“I’ve been taking my dogs here for probably thirty years. I’ve always been very happy. This morning my dog was a little bit drunk on her feet. Her balance was well off. So I rang the lads. They fitted me in that morning.

I was seen within five minutes of the appointment. Sweet and much more importantly the dog is grand . A little fever but she got her shot and tablets, thanks lads. Much appreciated.”

Excellent service and friendly staff

“Excellent service and friendly staff. From the reception staff to the vets themselves. I know my dog is getting the best care here. I couldn’t recommend them enough in this practice. Have used for many years and will continue to do so.”

Anicare is best for those living in North Dublin. They service areas such as Malahide and Marino, and have been doing it daily for the past 30 years.

Although they’re a small practice, many of their services closely mirror those of larger clinics. They offer surgery here and cover specialisations such as oncology and orthopaedics. I’ve also met pet owners who have had pets undergo soft tissue surgery.

However, I wouldn’t recommend them for more complex surgeries, as those should be performed at a hospital.

Still, I can completely get behind their preventative healthcare measures. Pets can get vaccinations and neutering here to prevent the spread of disease.

For pets with fleas or bugs, parasite control services are here, and I’ve seen them remove everything—even maggots from strays.

Cat owners will love that Anicare prioritises them above others. They have a separate clinic and waiting room just for them. Cat owners swear that this clinic is great for dedicated service or as a second opinion.

They offer dental care and can treat a wide range of conditions, from extractions to periodontal disease.

Pros

  • Services most of North Dublin
  • 30 years of experience
  • Provides small surgeries
  • Wide range of treatments
  • Great preventative healthcare
  • Unique feline medicine unit

Cons

  • Can’t handle complex surgeries

It’s my dog’s favourite place to go

“Great practice – always very efficient. It’s my dog’s favourite place to go because he gets so many treats and rubs! Great to have a side door option for any dog that would struggle with other animals in the waiting room. Really appreciated. The photo attached shows how much he loves going in!”

– L O’R, Google Review

The most kind, caring, and dedicated clinicians

“Excellent vet practice – the most kind, caring and dedicated clinicians from the front desk, through to nursing and vets. Thankfully don’t have to attend often, but when we do – always feel we have been excellently cared for. Very grateful to have them on my doorstep”

– Megan Cleary, Google Review
