Shop all you want at these 8 Sunday markets in Dublin

It’s true that in the modern era, large-scale grocery stores and shopping centres have become the norm for purchasing most of our daily needs. These places offer convenience and ease of transaction that no other place can beat.

There has been a steady return of what is known as Sunday markets or farmers’ markets. Dublin has many of these, offering a unique blend of home-grown produce and locally sourced items that you cannot find anywhere else.

The best way to support those in your community, especially farmers and traditional craftsmen, is to head to these markets and buy from them. Everything is fresh and uniquely made, which means better quality overall compared to supermarkets.

Website: https://www.moorestreetmarkets.com

Address: Moore St, North City, Dublin, Ireland

Typical Number of Stalls: 15 – 80

Sold Goods: Fresh Produce, Fresh Baked Goods, Cooked Meals, Clothes, and Accessories

Operating Hours:

  • Wednesday to Saturday:
    • 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Moore Street Market is one of Dublin’s oldest marketplaces. The street has been home to local traders since its inception in the 18th century. It is a bustling marketplace where many cultures converge, offering a wide variety of products at cheap prices.

The market mainly offers fresh produce to the locals directly from the farmers. There have also been stalls of different cuisines that have started to join in, sharing their cultural and authentic food for all of Dublin to taste.

The market is also home to a few local craftsmen, selling their own wares and creations, such as clothes and accessories. You may even find a few shops selling flowers, if they’re in season.

Pro Tip:
The market has slowly declined in popularity as of late, which may impact your visit if you were looking for a specific vendor in mind. Be sure to get their socials and contact info, just in case they move to a different market.

2. Howth Market

Website: http://howthmarket.ie

Address: 3A Harbour Rd, Howth, Dublin, D13 X2D0, Ireland

Typical Number of Stalls: 25

Sold Goods: Fresh Produce, Artisan Produce, Crafts, and Accessories

Operating Hours:

  • Monday to Friday:
    • 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Saturday to Sunday:
    • 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM

While a bit away from Dublin city itself, Howth Market is a popular spot to find quality goods for a bargain. Hosting a variety of stalls, the market has become quite well-known amongst locals in need of quality goods.

While the market is known for its fresh produce, there have also been sightings of unique crafts created by locals, such as pottery and sculptures. There are also freshly baked goods that are ready to be eaten, just in case you get hungry.

The market also has decorative artworks and plants, perfect for those who want to add a bit of spice to their homes. However, our favourite has to be the gelato shop, as they’ve got a myriad of flavours and are quite generous in their servings.

Pro Tip:
If you’re heading here to eat, please bear in mind that the seating for some of the stalls does tend to be quite limited. You might have to eat your food by the pier or inside your car as the market can get crowded at times.

3. Temple Bar Craft Market

Address: Temple Bar Square, Temple Bar, Dublin, Ireland

Typical Number of Stalls: 7 – 20

Sold Goods: Arts and Crafts, Jewellery, and Artworks

Operating Hours:

  • Thursday to Friday:
    • 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM
  • Saturday:
    • 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Temple Bar has three different markets to choose from, but we chose the Craft Market because it truly showcases the locals’ talent and love for the arts. Located in the heart of Temple Bar itself, the market is full of neat knick-knacks and artworks to buy.

Some stalls sell different jewellery made from sustainable materials, such as sea glass, which is perfect for a unique gift to a loved one. There has also been a rise in crocheted dolls and toys, perfect for the kids who love squishy and huggable toys.

The market is also well-known for having a few local artists selling their prints and stickers, allowing locals and visitors to lend their support for the artists’ growing crafts. My favourite has to be the hand-crafted diaries with their wonderful and unique patterns on the covers.

Pro Tip:
If you’re looking to peruse the other markets, such as Temple Bar’s food and book markets, then make sure you come on Saturdays. That is when all three markets are open.

Sold Goods: Antiques, Clothing, Home Furnishings, Electronics, and Food Stalls

Operating Hours:

  • Saturday to Sunday:
    • 11:00 AM – 5:30 PM

Blackrock Market has been serving its home village since 1750, offering a place for locals to set up shop and sell their goods. The market is also home to a few restaurants, which adds to its appeal and attracts more customers to the other stalls.

Aside from that, it’s also home to a few speciality and antique shops for hobbyists who are looking to peruse the locals’ collections. There’s also a local fortune teller for those who’d want to have a glimpse into their futures, for a cost, that is.

Pro Tip:
The market is home to an Indian grocery store that is chock-full of different spices and aromatics. If you’re looking to stock up on these, then supporting this local grocery shop might be your best bet if you’re looking to buy them for cheap.

Address: Bushy Park, Terenure, Dublin, Ireland

Typical Number of Stalls: 30

Sold Goods: Artisan Goods, Fresh Baked Goods, and Cooked Meals

Bushy Park’s Market is your typical Sunday Market, and we love it the way it is. It is a popular destination for visitors to have a meal during or after they’ve explored the park.

Known to be quite inclusive in their roster of stalls, many of Bushy Park’s sellers offer tasty treats and filling meals made from local produce. There are also artisan goods and crafts, such as wooden chopping boards and crochets, for you to enjoy.

They don’t limit themselves to humans, as there are stalls that sell treats and food specifically for pets. Our favourite has got to be the Fish and Chips, though, as they serve a good combo.

Pro Tip:
Due to the market’s location, the park has been known to offer some form of entertainment during special occasions. If you’re looking to be entertained while you shop, make sure to head to their social media to check when these might happen.

  • Thursday to Friday:
    • 10:30 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Saturday:
    • 10:30 AM – 5:00 PM

Liberty Market’s goal is to offer cheap goods and to support local craftsmen, and they have been delivering on that promise for years. Home to one of Dublin’s largest congregations of craftsmen, this place offers a lot of variety at cheap prices.

The market offers a wide range of specially crafted accessories such as chains, jewellery, and even watches. They also sell goods specific to certain hobbies, such as DVDs, action figures, and old books.

Our favourite has to be the nicely made footwear that is so much cheaper than the ones you can find at bigger stores.

Pro Tip:
While Liberty Market mainly caters to craftsmen, there’s also a butcher inside the market. They have a good selection of meat that is fairly priced, and they tend to be cheaper than the cuts you can find at other butcher shops.

7. Farmleigh Market

Typical Number of Stalls: 35

Sold Goods: Artisan Goods, Accessories, Arts and Crafts, and Cooked Meals

Operating Hours:

  • Monday to Sunday:
    • 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Farmleigh Market has got to be the cosiest one on this list. Its speciality is that, aside from the typical stalls you might be familiar with, they also have a host of food trucks selling tasty snacks at low prices.

Best part? It’s free to enter and gives you a chill way to spend a Sunday munching local Irish treats. Sometimes there’s live music or street performers, which makes the whole vibe super Instagram-worthy.

Pro Tip:
Go early in the morning. That’s when you’ll score the freshest pastries and best coffee before the crowd shows up. You might even snag free samples from the vendors.

8. Airfield Farmer’s Market

Website: https://www.airfield.ie/farmers-market-at-airfield-estate/

Address: Overend Ave, Dundrum, Dublin, D14 EE77, Ireland

Typical Number of Stalls: 11

Sold Goods: Fresh Produce, Baked Goods, Artisan Goods, and Plants

Operating Hours:

  • Friday to Saturday:
    • 9:00 AM – 2:30 PM

Airfield Farmer’s Market is located in Airfield Estate and prides itself on pioneering sustainability in everything it sells. They have a select few permanent stalls that specialise in their own unique goods that rarely overlap with each other.

Some of their most notable stalls include the Sugarloaf Bakery, which serves artisanal bread and baked goods. There’s also Kilmore Seafresh, a sustainable fresh fish stall.

One stall, MD Floral, grows their flowers on the estate itself, from seed, organically.

Pro Tip:
If you’re looking to come here with a car or a bicycle, be sure to arrive early, as their parking is quite limited and you might struggle to find a space. We suggest heading here as early as 8:00 AM just to be safe.
